Lacy Oasis + Hipcamps

When it comes to self-care, there are few therapies better than getting outside. Nature has a refreshing and rejuvenating effect on the mind and body, especially when talking about camping.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take some “me-time” at a beautiful outdoor retreat just north of the Chesapeake Bay. As part of the Hipcamps network, Lacy Oasis has quickly become one of my favorite places to visit.

I was invited by Candice Napper who is the great grand-daughter of the Founder of Lacy Oasis. Candice and I spent our first year of college together and recently reconnected as we’re both fostering initiatives for wellness. Candice was so kind to invite me out for a 2 day weekend retreat at Lacy Oasis.

The drive getting there was peaceful and just a little over an hour. Upon arrival, I was excited to partake in the festivities. If you are in need of a time of reflection and refreshment, Lacy Oasis is a Hipcamp that will bring you back to center.

What is Hipcamps?

Hipcamps is an online marketplace that connects travelers to locally owned campgrounds and camping recreational vehicles.

Built in a similar format to popular home-sharing websites like Airbnb, Hipcamps allows campgrounds to list their campsites on the website. When visitors find a site that interests them, they can book it for any time up to three months in advance.

What makes HipCamps Special?

Hipcamps isn’t just about booking a spot at one of the campgrounds – they also put on events and educational workshops throughout the year. Purchasing land has always been a bucket list item for me. I’m now inspire even more after visiting Lacy Oasis to begin the process. I love the fact that by banding together, campers can utilize a local resource pool to learn about things like stargazing, astronomy classes, and even yoga.

For me, Hipcamp is a place to connect with nature and find the self-care needed personally and professionally. The owners, Dionna and Yavonne, built Lacy Oasis to be a place that brings together the history of nature-loving women who want to bring their passion to the outdoors.

Lacy Oasis in Maryland is a beautiful example of what Hipcamp can be – it’s an oasis, both an oasis from the buzzing happenings of society and an oasis from stress.

Camping At Lacy Oasis

Lacy Oasis is a black family-owned wellness camping area two miles north of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. With 15 acres of beautiful outdoor space, Lacy Oasis offers a place to disconnect and be refreshed. I want to highlight the fact that a black family has owned this property since 1984. It is now “operated by the founders, Julia and Felix Lacy, two grand-daughters and supported by the Lacy Oasis Team. The mission of Lacy Oasis is to revive human connection through a space of nature and tranquility. Our goal is to alleviate the disconnection of humanity through wilderness and horticulture therapy which provides a sense of self discovery, stress reduction and heightens awareness of your journey in life”.

During my visit to Lacy Oasis, we participated in a variety of incredible experiences, from team-building exercises and progressive muscle relaxation to painting and chair yoga.

Best of all, we did all of this while immersed in the beauty of nature. It was a environment to reset.

My time at Lacy Oasis supported my wellness journey by offering opportunities for meditation and yoga practices. I came home feeling refreshed, inspired and excited about connecting with others that prioritize self-care.
